K9 Program Goal

Ashwaubenon Public Safety is in the process of implementing a K-9 program in the community.  Over the past three decades the Public Safety Department has experienced tremendous change in population numbers, increased personnel, changes in department structure and increased criminal activity within the community.

The Village of Ashwaubenon has seen increases in transient population along with government subsidized housing.  Along with these increases so goes with it the increase in illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities. A K-9 unit not only can be used to find illicit drugs, it can track criminals and aid in finding missing persons.

In 2008 Brown County was added to the Federally Designated High Density Drug Trafficking Area along with Dane, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Racine, Rock and Waukesha Counties. With that Ashwaubenon Public Safety has taken initiatives to curb trafficking in the Village.  A full time Drug Task Force Agent was added and a study for the K-9 program was implemented.  The study shows a real need to keep up with and try and stay ahead of these issues.  It also shows a true need and desire by the officers of Ashwaubenon Public Safety to have this extra layer of enforcement and security readily available.

With having the region’s largest retail hub and numerous high volume entertainment venues along with a large Public School system; a K-9 unit can be beneficial in many aspects of Officer and Citizen Protection.

Ashwaubenon Public Safety’s goal is to have this K-9 Program fully funded by private and business donations and to be in operation in the fall of 2014. 

The Ashwaubenon Public Safety K-9  Program has been established and a goal is set to raise $100,000 to begin and sustain the program for years to come.
