The Patrol Division is the backbone of most departments. With 29 officers assigned to this area, ours in no exception. They are usually the first contact with the public. Although all these officers are trained as Paramedics or Emergency Medical Technicians along with being certified Firefighters, the busiest part of their work day involves police patrol. The officers patrol over 12 square miles. The Village has an average daytime population of over 45,000 people that visit here to work, shop, or take part in the many entertainment venues. They respond to approximately 18,600 calls for service each year. They keep active in traffic enforcement issuing over 3,300 traffic warnings and over 3,300 traffic citations during 2006. This enforcement has a direct correlation to a 39% reduction in traffic accidents with injuries last year. These officers take great pride in their department by participating in a Citizen Ride Along program to assist citizens in better understanding the nature of the job.
